Sequel Data Systems – SMB Reference Implementation for Unidesk and VMware View Page 6
Eight HP BL460C blade servers were implemented to support 500 virtual desktops, with a density of ~62
desktops per host. These eight servers provide capacity for both growth and failover.
A single HP EVA 6400 provides a highly available, centralized storage backend for all virtual desktops in
the TRWD environment.
Unidesk desktop layering technology provides:
• Operating system image management – 1 gold shared by all persistent desktops to simplify gold
image patching and provisioning and reduce storage;
• Application delivery – 1 set of application layers shared by different desktops to simplify
application packaging and patching and reduce storage;
• Personalization – retain user-installed applications and all other customizations.
VMware vSphere virtual infrastructure and VMware View desktop virtualization software provide:
• Hypervisor technology to host the virtual desktops;
• Brokering and high-speed PCoIP protocol to ensure a high-performance user experience;
• Broad client support to enable access to desktops from any endpoint device;
• Security servers located in the DMZ to provide secure remote access to the VDI environments.
