3Copyallthefilesinthevirtualmachinedirectorytothenewlocation.

DVD,orusesomeotherstoragemediathathasen

aVirtualMachine”onpage 97.
4Onthenewhost,startWorkstation,chooseFile>Open,andbrowsetothevirtual
machine’sconfiguration(.vmx)fileinitsnewlocation.

uaremovingthevi
rtualmachinetoadifferentlocationonthesame
host,removethevirtualmachinefromtheFavoriteslistandadditagainusingthe
newlocation.
6Whenyouarecertainthatthevirtualmachineinthenewlocationworkscorrectly,
deletethevirtualmachinefilesfromtheol
dlocation,ifneeded.
Ifthevirtualmachineinthenewlocationisnotworkingcorrectly,examinethe
virtualmachineintheoriginallocationtodetermineifyoumissedcopyingsome
files.Somefilesmightresideoutsideofthevirtualmachinedirectory.
Usethevirtualmachinesettingseditor(VM>Settings>Hardware)toselec
t
dev
icesanddeterminewhetheranyassociatedfilespointtolocationsthatcannot
beaccessedfromthenewlocation.
WorkstationgeneratesadifferentMACaddressforthevirtualnetworkadapterwhen
youmoveavirtualmachinetoanewhostcomputerortoadifferentdirectoryonthe
samehostcom
puter.AnewMACaddressisalsogeneratedwhenyourenamea
directoryinthepathtothevirtualmachine’sconfigurationfile.See“Maintainingand
ChangingtheMACAddressofaVirtualMachine”onpage 308.
Moving an Older Virtual Machine
IfyoucreatedavirtualmachinebyusingWorkstation2.xor3.x,youmustupgradeit
toatleastWorkstation4.Workstation7.0doesnotsupportWorkstation2or3virtual
machines.
